In part one of ‘The Heart Of The Online Dating Profile,’ I began giving you a few tips to help you get started with writing your dating profile essay. This article will consist almost entirely of tips to help you write that essay, so let’s get straight to the point.
Honesty is the single most important thing to remember when writing a great profile essay. It’s much easier to write about yourself if you are honest about who you are. If you are dishonest about who you are then it will be found out soon enough. It’s best to be honest right up front instead of paying the price for dishonesty later down the road.
Honesty when writing a dating profile means not exaggerating on topics like physical appearance, job or financial status. Creating a fake profile that makes you seem very attractive may lead to more users contacting you and interacting with you, but this will never last long because it is based on lies. In the long run, you will not get your money’s worth because you didn’t find your perfect mate.
Sociable, outgoing personalities who appear friendly are likely to have much more success on an online dating site, so bear this in mind when writing your online dating profile essay, but never try to be someone you aren’t.
When women read men’s profiles they look for humor, honesty, self-assurance (not arrogance) and a variety of interests — especially those that can be shared. As one particular female dating site member observed, “A complete user profile with plenty of specifics usually means that hes likely to be open and interesting in real life.” So there you have it guys. “I’ll fill this out later” just isn’t going to cut it in your profile essay.
Most people, especially women, are not overly impressed or enticed by negative or sexually suggestive comments in headlines, in your essay, or in contact emails for that matter. It is best to avoid these lame comments and create a positive, complimentary and fun essay that reflects the essence of your personality.
“He’s my very first priority and if you’re not alright with that then move along.” A number of women begin their profiles with claims such as this one (in conjunction with 12 pictures of their little one). An average man encountering this will probably assume that the woman is totally consumed with her child and she’s not available emotionally or otherwise for getting together with men and dating.
Your online dating profile is where you describe yourself. Describing yourself the right way in your profile can make or break your chances of finding someone who is right for you, so don’t take it for granted.
